Frequently asked questions
Is German B1 hard?
B1 is the biggest single jump, because it is the first time you have to handle word order in subordinate clauses — the verb moves to the end. In return, B1 is where you can read simple news and work in a basic German-speaking environment.
How long does B1 take from A2?
About 16 weeks at a steady pace, plus roughly 1,000 more words. B1 needs more reading time than the two levels before it, so aim for at least 20 minutes of reading a day.
What is a B1 certificate for?
Goethe B1 or telc B1 is the level usually required for vocational training (Ausbildung) in Germany and for some naturalisation procedures. It is the most common target level overall.
